Properly Store and Clean Your Toothbrush

Mar 26 2018

We all know the importance of brushing your teeth, but an often overlooked part of many people’s dental hygiene routine is how they care for their toothbrush.

The next time you finish brushing your teeth, be sure to keep these tips in mind:

  • Rinse off your toothbrush:
After you brush your teeth, make sure you rinse off your toothbrush with water.
  • Storing your toothbrush:
Allow your toothbrush to air-dry after you have rinsed it off. If you cover the brush or place it in any kind of container, moisture can develop creating the perfect environment for microorganisms to thrive.
  • Keep your toothbrush to yourself:
Never share your toothbrush with another person. The germs that are on the toothbrush can be transferred from person to person and increase the chances of infection.
  • Replacing your toothbrush:
As you use your toothbrush, the bristles will begin to wear and will be unable to clean your teeth as effectively. It is recommended to replace your toothbrush about every 3-4 months; sooner if you notice signs of wear.

By not taking care of your toothbrush you may be spreading more germs in your mouth than you are eliminating. Be sure that you not only properly clean your teeth, but also care for your toothbrush correctly.
