What does soda really do to our teeth?
May 1 2018
We know that soda is not healthy, but many people overlook the dental health issues that can occur from drinking soda.
There are a couple of reasons as to why soda is harmful to our teeth. One issue is the large amounts of sugar. The sugar from soda, or any food and drink, mixes with bacteria in our mouth and forms an acid that can increase your risk of developing tooth decay and gum disease. Even if you drink sugar-free soda you can still damage your teeth. Sugar-free soda still contains acid that wears away our tooth enamel.
Parents should be extra careful to monitor their children's soda consumption. Because children's and teenagers’ tooth enamel is not fully developed. They are the most at risk of cavities. The best way to stay hydrated and keep your mouth healthy is to drink water.
